The short answer
- For one person, Google's 5 TB plan is the cheapest per terabyte of the four, at about $48 per TB per year. 2 TB costs about $120 a year at both Google and Dropbox.
- Microsoft's family plans now share 2 TB among up to six people instead of giving each person 1 TB. For a family of six, that's about 333 GB each.
- Box's personal plan costs $1,200 per TB per year, 20 times Dropbox's yearly rate.
- The free plans add up to 32 GB (15 GB Google, 10 GB Box, 5 GB OneDrive, 2 GB Dropbox), and Axclaim lets you use all four together.
- Before you pay for more, check what you're storing twice. Axclaim finds duplicate files across all four services.
Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Box all start free, and all charge very differently once you outgrow the free plan. Here’s every personal plan from all four on one page, converted to the one number that makes them comparable: cost per TB per year. Axclaim works with all four, so these are exactly the services you can manage together in one place.

Cost per TB uses yearly billing where the provider offers it. *Google’s figures use its monthly prices. Google says annual billing saves up to 16%, which would make its plans cheaper still.
A few things stand out:
- 2 TB costs about $120 a year at both Google and Dropbox. Google’s annual billing, which it says saves up to 16%, would bring its price lower.
- Microsoft charges more per TB for one person ($100 for 1 TB), but Personal, Family and Premium include the Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps.
- Microsoft’s family plans got smaller. Family and Premium used to give each of up to six people 1 TB (up to 6 TB in total). New subscriptions now get 2 TB shared by everyone, about 333 GB each for a family of six.
- Box is built for businesses. Its 100 GB personal plan costs 20 times more per TB than Dropbox Plus billed yearly.
- 100 GB costs $1.99 a month at Google and Microsoft. Box charges $10 to $14 a month for the same 100 GB, and Dropbox has no personal plan below 2 TB.
Free storage: 32 GB across the four
| Service | Free storage | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| 15 GB | Shared with Gmail and Google Photos | |
| Box | 10 GB | Files up to 250 MB each |
| OneDrive | 5 GB | Shared with Outlook.com attachments |
| Dropbox | 2 GB | Shared folders you join count toward it |
| Total | 32 GB |
If you’re not ready to pay, using all four free plans gives you 32 GB. The catch is keeping track of what’s where. Axclaim connects all four in one place, so you can see every file and spot the same file stored twice. Our post on combining cloud storage accounts explains how to choose between using several accounts and moving everything into one.
Google Drive prices (Google One)
| Plan | Storage | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 15 GB | Free |
| Basic | 100 GB | $1.99 |
| Google AI Plus | 2 TB | $9.99 |
| Google AI Pro | 5 TB | $19.99 |
Google sells its 2 TB and 5 TB storage as part of its Google AI plans. All Google storage is shared across Drive, Gmail and Google Photos, so a full inbox uses the same space as your files. Annual billing saves up to 16%.
Dropbox prices
| Plan | Storage | Billed monthly | Billed yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2 GB | Free | Free |
| Plus | 2 TB, 1 person | $11.99/month | $9.99/month ($119.88/year) |
Dropbox’s team plans start at 3 TB shared across the whole team. Watch out for shared folders: on Dropbox, folders other people share with you count toward your own space.
OneDrive prices (Microsoft 365)
| Plan | Storage | Billed monthly | Billed yearly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 GB | Free | Free |
| Basic | 100 GB | $1.99/month | $19.99/year |
| Personal | 1 TB | $9.99/month | $99.99/year |
| Family | 2 TB shared by up to 6 people | $12.99/month | $129.99/year |
| Premium | 2 TB shared by up to 6 people | $19.99/month | $199.99/year |
Personal, Family and Premium include the Microsoft 365 desktop apps, so you’re paying for more than storage.
Microsoft’s October 2026 storage change. Since October 8, 2026, new and upgraded Family and Premium subscriptions get 2 TB of storage shared by everyone on the plan, instead of 1 TB per person. Existing subscribers move to shared storage when their plan renews on or after May 2, 2027, and Microsoft says some of them may get free bonus storage when that happens. Extra storage can be added to the shared pool, up to 10 TB in total. Personal and Basic keep their own dedicated 1 TB and 100 GB.
Family and Premium now come with the same 2 TB, so Premium’s higher price buys more Copilot AI features rather than more space. Microsoft’s plans page still describes Premium as 1 TB per person, but its support article on the change says new Premium subscriptions get 2 TB shared.
Box prices
| Plan | Storage | Largest file | Billed monthly | Billed yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual | 10 GB | 250 MB | Free | Free |
| Personal Pro | 100 GB | 5 GB | $14/month | $10/month ($120/year) |
Box’s free plan is generous at 10 GB, but its paid personal plan is the most expensive way to buy storage on this page.
Before you pay for more storage
The cheapest storage is the space you’re already paying for. Before you upgrade:
- Clear out duplicates. Copies pile up from camera uploads, files saved twice and folders synced from more than one computer. Axclaim finds them within each service and across all four, even when the copies have different names. See our guide to finding duplicates across cloud storage.
- Empty the trash. On Google Drive and OneDrive, deleted files keep using your space until the trash is emptied.
- Use the free space you already have. Moving big folders from a full account into another service’s free plan can put off an upgrade. Axclaim copies files between services without downloading them. Our guide to moving files between cloud storage services has the steps.

Microsoft’s storage change comes from its support article, Changes to Microsoft 365 storage. Prices vary by country, don’t include tax, and change from time to time, so we re-check them regularly and update the date at the top of this page.
